Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on 28 October 1967 in Atlanta. Her family is the fourth Roberts family that lived in Atlanta. It began with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. At an early age the father of her mother became obsessed with theatre. When he was a student at Emory University he appeared in various productions both on and off campus. When he joined in 1953 the Air force in Biloxi, he was seen with Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. In 1955, the couple married and their son Eric Anthony was born. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In 1957, the couple were discharged from the air force and Walter began studying at Tulane University. The family relocated in 1960 to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 on the local Saturday morning children's TV show Bum Bum and His Buddies and their Buddies, which they both funded. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for six years. Lelisa Billingsley, also known as Lisa was born in 1965. Julia Billingsley followed in 1967.
